you look down,
your left hand covers your mouth

as though you want it closed
for a while

like a door, as though someone
is there and you do not want it to come out for a while

your right hand lifts the left,
protesting the gag,

when the mouth opens
it says nothing, this is the pause

when words like ghosts come
out again,
